Corey Brown is an artist based in Groveland, Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate degree from Brandeis University with majors in Film and German and a minor in Studio Art. Corey takes inspiration from internet culture as well as Weimar German art movements like Dada and New Objectivity. His work uses the figure to showcase an online sensibility that is as whimsical as it is intense. In the digital age social media presents an endless secretion of images. Corey's work references this aspect of society by collaging original photographs, taken by the artist or from the public domain, and twisting them repeatedly through the help of Photoshop. The finished products intentionally leave little trace of what once was to create something completely unique. Depending on the artwork, sometimes hundreds of images merge into one coherent concoction. These collages are then left as is or used as references for oil paintings, charcoal drawings, or screen prints.
